GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Religious Education

At Marden Lodge, our aim is to develop our children’s understanding of the world around them so that they are accepting and tolerant individuals with a good understanding of the diverse world that they live in. Through RE, children are given opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of a range of religions and cultures found within their community and beyond and is an excellent opportunity to teach, discuss and reflect on living in a multicultural society.

 

At Marden Lodge we follow the Surrey syllabus for Religious Education which takes into account that Great Britain is traditionally Christian, while also taking into account the teachings and practices of other principal religions. As well as discrete RE lessons in every year group, topics and festivals arise in assemblies and other opportunities across our curriculum. Through the use of real life artefacts, trips to local places of worship, inviting visitors/speakers into school from various faith groups, children develop their curiosity and are given lots of opportunities to ask questions. 

 

We make learning in RE meaningful by encouraging lots of class and group discussions. Children discuss their own religious beliefs and share experiences with each other.  We also encourage children to compare similarities and differences between religious and non religious groups.

 

By the end of Year 6, children have discovered a good understanding of a variety of religions, opinions and beliefs and are inspired to challenge themselves to form their own opinions on a variety of issues. Children have a respect for different beliefs, cultures and religions people may have and a strong understanding of how these differences make us diverse, unique and special. They will have a good understanding of who they are and where they belong in our world.
